About Giclee Prints
What is a Giclee Print and who does it?
What is it?
Giclee is the first and only fine art print to be made with an ink jet printer. Pronounced zhee'clay, the word comes from the French, meaning to squirt or spray, which is exactly what an ink jet printer does... The quality of a giclee print is far superior to all other forms of printing.
Also known as Archival Pigment Printing, Giclée printing is a process that uses fade-resistant, archival pigment inks and archival art papers to print on large format printers. It is used by artists to make reproductions of their original two-dimensional artwork, photographs or computer-generated art while preserving the original.
Who does it?
When I first started out I was advised to go and see Paul Wright and he has become vital to my work ever since. He has been so kind and generous with his time and expertise over the years that I’d like to give him a mention here.
Paul’s business name is Studio B Fine Art Printing and he’s based at the Biscuit Factory art gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne. He has over 20 years’ experience in digital print and has reproduced work for over 1000 artists and photographers. His studio is accredited as a Hahnemuhle Certified Print Studio ensuring the highest standards of archival conservation and colour management throughout the printing process. He also holds accreditation with Adobe Systems as an Adobe Certified Expert & Tutor in Photoshop.
So I feel that my paintings are in the hands of the expert!
