COMMISSIONS
I love spending time on commissions. These can be for a large organisation like the National Trust, or an individual with a happy memory and a story to tell...
MY APPROACH
My aim is to make a picture which is totally unique and personal to you. It normally begins with a visit, a phone call or an email. We can chat through what you've seen, what you like, the size, level of detail and any aspect which you feel is particularly important. Also, when you'd like the painting to be finished. I usually ask for a few weeks notice but I try to be flexible. An A3 painting will usually take around 4 - 6 weeks, smaller is quicker, larger longer of course.
SIZE
Most of my commissioned work is A3 in size but it can range from A5 up to A2. You will own the original and you can also have mounted giclee prints made at all of my usual sizes (with 30% discount) for family and friends. The original will be unmounted and unframed as I'd rather let you decide how to frame it. I can help with framing though if you prefer.
The examples below give a rough idea of the level of detail possible in various sizes:
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
It depends on the size of the original and its purpose. Prices range from £500 for a simple A5 piece up to £3000 for an A2 visitor map for public use, and anything in between. My most popular size tends to be A3 and that is approximately £1400. Please get in touch if you'd like further details. I can email you a more detailed breakdown of costs for particular sizes.
OTHER INFORMATION
You are welcome to have some mounted prints made for friends and family. These will be my usual print sizes but you can have a 30% discount on the cost of each print. Also, any travel outside of Northumberland/Durham would be 45p/mile.
THE PROCESS
Following our initial conversation it's a question of collecting and emailing me any relevant photos, notes and a list of features you'd like included. When possible I use my own sketches, photos and the internet to help me.
First I'd ask for a 40% deposit so that I can book the work in my calendar.
After you have approved an initial sketch I will complete a full size pencil drawing and send a photo for your comments, after which I can make any changes/additions.
Once you are happy I will do the ink line drawing and send a photo, again for any small revisions.
Then I'll complete the watercolour painting and if you'd like me to I can send another photo before arranging to meet and hand over the final piece. If meeting up isn't possible I can send the painting via special delivery once it's been scanned and we have a high resolution file (just in case!).
